History
Flemish horses were developed in the
15th
Century to carry heavily armored Knights onto the battle and tournament fields
of Europe. Also called “Great Horses”, “High Horses”, and “Destriers”, the
legendary Flemish horse was fierce, expensive to own and used only for war. He
and his mounted Knight were to medieval armies what tanks are to our military
today. As the weapons of warfare transitioned from sharpened steel to
long-range gunnery, Knights were forced to choose lightening speed over the
shock of heavy cavalry and the Flemish horse was respectfully retired from
frontline military service. While only a few of their noble breed remain today,
they are the patriarchs of all modern draft horses such as Clydesdales and
Belgians.
A Tradition of Strength and Honor
In the
tradition of his ancestors, Thor thrills thousands of children each week as a
jousting steed with The Knights of The Guild. The Knights of The Guild is a
publicly supported nonprofit organization that teaches good character, ethics
and self-worth to schoolchildren across the nation. Thor serves as an
inspirational symbol of strength for kids to remember when they must choose
between right and wrong.
Don't miss this
magnificent specimen of the ages.
